Freedom to Let Go
Freedom to ‘let go’ is the opposite to many aspects of the desire for ‘freedom from’. The thing is we often don’t feel we can ‘let go’ of whatever it is troubling us. At the same time, we may have a ‘fear of letting go’ as if we were holding on to something which might be ‘keeping us safe’.
The other aspect is the ‘what if?’ we let go of something, what will replace it? Will we still have ‘something to do’ if we let go of what we have? What if we’re making a mistake about letting go? What if we find, which happens quite often, we’ve ‘missed out’ by letting go? The list is endless or seems to be.
We are of course free to let go of anything, we just have to make the decision, but quite often we make the decision to let go but then fail to take the action. Here’s where the heart of the problem lies, making the choice to do what we want to do when we’re unsure what the consequences might be.
Letting go usually means moving out of our comfort zone and we’re never quite sure what lies out there, what we’ll find, what will happen when we let go. It can also mean staying in the comfort zone when we let go of an ambition or a goal we may be hanging on to in the hope it will work out some day.
Letting go is usually seen as an individual choice but all the ‘stuff’ which surrounds us is complex.
Don’t be the frog who decides to jump of the lily pad but never gets around to letting go and jump into the water!
