Freedom from Expectations

Expectations are a curious phenomenon; they can be both positive and negative and related both to ourselves and others. The negative side expresses when we have expectations of others to do things for us, behave in a certain way, or meet other ‘requirements’ we might have placed on them. Expectations of ourselves can also be difficult to deal with, especially when they aren’t fully thought through.

Why do we have ‘expectations’. Why should we ‘expect’ anything of ourselves or others? Expectations quickly lead to stress and anxiety when whatever we ‘expect’ doesn’t come about, either being delayed or never happening at all. Expectations are often attached to ‘when?’ and ‘how?’ especially when things aren’t going ‘according to plan’.

Expectations arise from how we organise our lives: we have aspirations and goals and what we need to remember is rather than just having ‘expectations’ of achieving these we set clear intentions and pay attention to the specific plans we develop along with them without adding in the tension of ‘expectations’.

When your intentions, goals and plans are clear and you refrain from ‘worrying’, the universe will guide you to the decisions you need to make to achieve the desired outcome.

In #Freedom to Be Yourself I discussed the question of expectations others have of you.
